Could Kerry Packer have been Australia's Trump?
Kerry Francis Bullmore Packer, 17th December 1937 - 26th December 2005
Kerry Packer was born into money & came into control, of his family's power by chance. A twist of fate would see Kerry Packer's father Sir Frank Packer only 2 years prior to his death in 1974, fall out with Kerry's older brother Clyde.
Taking on an estate valued at $100 million Kerry Packer was now a majority share holder in powerful media companies that were in nearly every facet of Australian media, most notably Channel 9. Kerry Packers influence is still felt in Australia every summer when Australian's sit around a well mowed paddock with hollowed out watermelons & enjoy the spectacle that is one day cricket.
The crown jewel of late night bad decision along the Yarra river in Melbourne is the Crown Casino an investment the Packer family benefited from greatly much like Trump's Casinos & hotels in Las Vegas.
A distaste for an overbearing government is another trait that shines through in both men, but where President elect Trump seemed more level headed during the 80s/90s, the same couldn't be said for Kerry Packer
The video below is from an Australian government inquiry into the print media industry held in 1991. Kerry Packer handles himself in a manner were you to read it from a transcipt you could almost mistake it for the President elect. From talking about repealing laws to his quick politically incorrect wit Kerry Packer never once shies from speaking his mind, with one line that everyone should hear at least once in their life. "Of course I am minimising my tax. And if anybody in this country doesn't minimise their tax, they want their heads read, because as a government, I can tell you you're not spending it that well that we should be donating extra."
He may not of drained the swamp but he certainly pissed in it a few times.
